Nyirarukundo

Nyirarukundo

While waiting for a ticket at the Nyabugogo bus station, I noticed a woman named Nyirarukundo carrying her baby on her back and selling fruits to passengers through the bus windows. In the middle of the busy, crowded bus park, her energy and determination stood out.

She moved from one bus to another, offering fruits to travelers some buying for the road, others to take home. Watching her work so tirelessly to support her child deeply touched me. It reminded me of the strength and resilience that so many Rwandan women carry every day.

This artwork is my way of honoring Nyirarukundo not just as a fruit vendor, but as a mother and a symbol of perseverance. Through her story, I wanted to capture the dignity in her struggle and the quiet courage that defines so many women working hard to create a better life for their families.
