Seleman Kubwimana is a Rwandan contemporary artist, born on August 25, 1995, in Nyarugenge District, Kigali, Rwanda, whose work centers on the dignity and strength of everyday life. Through acrylic on canvas, he documents real stories of mothers, laborers, bicycle riders, tailors, and street vendors and individuals whose daily efforts quietly sustain families and communities.
Kubwimana studied plastic arts at Ecole d’Art de Nyundo, where he developed his artistic foundation. He later pursued an Advanced Diploma in Information Technology at the Integrated Polytechnic Regional College of Kigali, where he specialized in Multimedia, including photography, videography, filmmaking, graphic design, and TV presentation. This multidisciplinary background continues to influence how he observes, documents, and composes his work.
Deeply inspired by personal encounters, Kubwimana does not imagine his subjects he meets people, listens to their stories, and translates their lived experiences into carefully composed paintings. His style is marked by small-scale, detailed figures placed on the lower part of the canvas, set against smooth, solid backgrounds. This minimal composition, often combined with soft shadows, draws focus to the subject and emphasizes presence, movement, and emotion.
Beyond visual representation, his work carries a social mission. Part of the proceeds from his art supports mothers who sell on the streets, helping them build enough capital to rent stable market stalls and improve their livelihoods. For Kubwimana, art is not only about painting it is about connection, visibility, and meaningful impact. Through his practice, he invites viewers to look closely at ordinary moments and discover the extraordinary humanity within them.
