My Story & Why This Mission
I’m Seleman Kubwimana, known as Selekarts, a Rwandan visual artist passionate about storytelling through painting. My journey in art began at Ecole d’Art de Nyundo, where I studied plastic arts and earned my diploma in graphic arts. Later, I pursued an Advanced Diploma in Information Technology, combining creativity with technology to expand my artistic expression.
Growing up, I was raised by a single mother who sold clothes door-to-door and on the streets to support our family. I saw her face many challenges, long days, uncertainty, and the constant struggle to make ends meet. Her strength and perseverance became my biggest inspiration and shaped the way I see the world and my art.
I started my professional career in 2018, and in 2022, I began focusing on capturing real stories of everyday Rwandans street vendors, farmers, mothers, and laborers. Through my work, I aim to give visibility and dignity to those who work hard but are often overlooked.
My mission goes beyond painting. I want to support mothers who sell on the streets, especially single mothers, so they can earn enough capital to rent plots in local markets. Many of these women sell illegally on the streets simply because they cannot afford a stall. By directing a portion of my art sales toward helping them transition into safer, legal market spaces, I hope to give them stability, dignity, and the ability to better support their families.
Today, every artwork sold on my platforms contributes to supporting vulnerable communities through our integrated donation system. We’re proud to have created a space where art lovers can discover amazing pieces while making a meaningful difference in the world.
Through my work, I aim to celebrate life, preserve culture, and empower communities turning every brushstroke into a story of hope, resilience, and real change.
