Umubyizi – Series
During my visit to Kirehe District, I saw women walking home after a long day in the fields, carrying bundles of grasses, leaves, and sometimes glasses on their heads. After the day’s work, they gather these grasses to feed their animals at home, ensuring their families and livestock are cared for.
This daily journey is both labor and responsibility. Each step reflects dedication, endurance, and quiet determination.
The series captures these women in motion their posture, the rhythm of their steps, and the focus in their expressions. They are sustaining life, supporting their households, and keeping traditions alive.
Through this series, I wanted to honor the dignity, care, and strength of these women, celebrating how ordinary routines can become acts of survival and love. Each painting is a tribute to their daily journey and the beauty of life in motion.
