Icarahandi - Series
The sewing machine is more than a tool. It creates school uniforms for children, special outfits for celebrations, and everyday clothes for families. It repairs torn garments, replaces zippers, resizes clothes that no longer fit, and gives new life to pieces that might otherwise be discarded.
I like knowing that when I buy clothes and they do not fit well or when they get damaged I can simply walk to a tailor in the neighborhood, and within a few minutes, they can fix them. That convenience, skill, and closeness make their work essential.
These tailoring spaces are part of the community’s daily rhythm. People come not only for service, but also for conversation and trust. Through their sewing machines, abatayeri support families by helping them save money, maintain their appearance, and extend the life of their clothing.
This series of paintings celebrates the sewing machine and the hands that guide it a symbol of skill, service, and quiet contribution to the neighborhood, one stitch at a time.
