Holding On the Road

Holding On the Road

While traveling across Rwanda from the Western Province to the Northern hills I often saw men on bicycles back to their villages. Some held onto passing trucks to help them climb steep roads, finding small ways to make long, difficult journeys possible.

I didn’t get the chance to speak to them, but what I saw spoke louder than words. Their strength, patience, and courage reflect the daily reality of many Rwandans who work hard to move goods across hilly landscapes. These moments reminded me of the quiet determination behind every simple act of survival.

Through this series, Holding On the Road, I wanted to honor that spirit the will to keep going, to find balance even when the path is hard.

Each painting captures both motion and stillness and a dream of reaching home.
